The NSPCC Charity Ball 2007... An evening of awareness and action!

Sakhara Management and B4U have teamed up to put on an event to create awareness and tackle child abuse, particularly within asian communities in association with The Filim Company.

THE FACTS

'Izzat' means that family comes before the individual, but to keep children safe from abuse theor interests must come first. Wewant to send out a message to the British Asian community that putting up a wall of silence will not protect children. It will only protect the abuser who will be free to abuse again.

The shock results of a survey revealed that over two-thirds of British Asians would hesitate before reporting child abuse within their families.

The NSPCC found that a majority of British Asains thought reporting child abuse would negatively affect the 'izzat' of the families involved.

The survey was carried out by 'Ethnic Focus Research and Intelligence' on behalf of the NSPCC. Five hundred face-to-face interviews were carried out comprising a nationally and regionally representative sample of first, second and third generation members of the Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi communities in the UK
